There are six total ingredients but the main ones are astragalus membranaceus root extract and arginine. The root extract is a medicinal herb that’s been proven by modern research to have anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties with a substantial amount of bioactive compounds (ex: saponins, flavonoids). For arginine, it’s an amino acid that is essential to hair keratin and skin collagen. It’s a natural moisturizing factor and due to it’s positive charge, it creates a complex with AHAs (they like to be negatively charged) and reduces the irritation that usually comes with using AHAs. I was using the haruharu black rice toner before and I think this essence toner really improved the redness of my cheeks and made my skin feel hydrated.
